And, if you want to do it from cygwin (like I do, as I use a shellscript to backup my important data), the command looks like this:

cmd.exe \/C "regedit /e c:\\Windows\\Temp\\RegFiles\\PuTTY.reg HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SimonTatham"

(Unfortunately there isn't a direct cygwin command to extract entire trees from the registry and save them in a file)

thanks pank, although putty is a great ssh client, this is the one feature it lacks....nice one.
